Engineering the Exceptional
At Rhenac, we don’t just build systems – we engineer possibilities. When others say “it can’t be done,” we step in to prove otherwise. From world-leading sports venues to cutting-edge research institutions, our team designs and delivers fully customised lighting and climate control systems that challenge convention and redefine what’s possible.
Whether it’s a pitch suspended beneath a stadium or a lab replicating a full day’s climate in just 60 seconds, Rhenac transforms complex requirements into reality. These unique challenges push our technology further – and show what truly sets us apart.
How do you simulate a full day’s climate in just one minute?
Project: Ludwig-Maximilian University, Munich (2015)
We developed the world’s first walk-in research chamber combining fully artificial air conditioning with a dynamic multi-channel LED light concept.
The setup enables minute-by-minute changes in both light and climate conditions – allowing researchers to simulate and study an entire day within 60 seconds.

What if there’s no space for traditional grow-light rigs – and no margin for error?
Project: Veltins Arena, Gelsenkirchen (2022)
With a moveable pitch and limited storage, FC Schalke 04 needed a year-round lighting and climate solution that would never come into contact with the turf.
We engineered a fixed overhead bridge system covering 3,500 m², capable of delivering both heat and grow light — 365 days a year. Today, it stands as the largest LED pitch grow-light system in the world.

Is it possible to run a fully artificial indoor algae farm 24/7, all year round?
Project: IGV Institute, Berlin (2019)
The request was for a 300 m² indoor algae cultivation system, running continuously in a completely artificial environment.
Considered unfeasible by many, the project demanded precise environmental control and operational stability. We designed and delivered a system that broke new ground in controlled-environment agriculture.

How do you maintain elite pitch quality when the field is stored under the stadium?
Project: Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid (2023)
As part of its ambitious renovation, the Bernabéu introduced a retractable pitch stored in six underground sections.
The challenge: maintaining natural turf in entirely artificial conditions. Rhenac was selected to design a full-spectrum lighting system for their underground greenhouse — a complex, high-stakes solution tailored to the demands of elite football.
